Holi hacks for skin and hair.

Are you afraid to play Holi because you think the colours will hurt your skin and hair? Don’t be afraid. Try these simple tips before and after Holi and have a great time with your family and friends!

Organic colours and gulaal:

Organic colours are safe and healthy to use for Holi. These organic colours are safe for your skin and hair and don’t hurt the environment. They are also easy to wash out after the festival.

Use ice to cool your face.

Before you go out to play Holi, rub ice cubes on your face for 15 minutes. This helps in closing the pores on your skin, ultimately, colours cannot penetrate deep into your skin layers. This trick also keeps your skin from getting acne or getting hurt after Holi.

Keep drinking water

Keep drinking water or refreshing drinks like lemon juice, coconut water, fresh fruit juices, etc. while you’re out playing holi. Adequate hydration decreases your chance of getting colours from drying up your skin. You won’t get heat or sun stroke if you drink water.

Your skin and hair need enough oil.

Before you play Holi, put a lot of coconut or almond oil on your skin and hair or a moisturiser on your skin. This puts a layer of protection between the paint and your skin. Massage oil into your hair at least an hour before going out. It keeps skin and hair from drying out. Dry skin and scalp are more likely to get hurt by dyes.

Sunblock and lip-and-eye care:

Use enough sunscreen on your face and any other skin that is exposed. Make sure you use lip balm with SPF. Wear sunglasses to keep your eyes from getting hurt by bright colours.

Different clothes:

Wear clothes made of materials that let air in, like cotton, and make sure to wear long sleeves. This will keep the skin from being directly exposed to colours and sunlight. Don’t wear tight clothes or those made of materials like synthetic; these could put your skin and hair at the risk of damage.

Trim your nails:

Before you play holi, trim your nails. Because the colours can get under the cuticles and hurt the skin below. Another way to protect your nails is to use nail polish.

Don’t go to a salon.

Avoid getting facials, waxing, threading, bleaching, mani/pedis, or any kind of hair treatment at the salon a few days before and after Holi. This will help you keep your skin and hair from getting sick.

Post-Holi Hacks:

> To get rid of dry paint, wipe your skin for 5–10 minutes with a tissue or wet cloth covered in baby oil or coconut oil.
> Use a mild face wash with foam to clean your face. Soap and harsh face washes are alkaline, so they will only make your skin drier. Go for some home remedies like masks made of besan, curd, turmeric, and honey.
> Keep your skin moisturised. It will stop roughness.
> Use cold water to wash your hair.
> To wash your hair, use a baby shampoo or a mild shampoo that cleans without chemicals. If the colour doesn’t come out in one wash, don’t wash them again and again because it will dry them out and make them more likely to get damaged.
> After washing your hair, use serum. It will keep your hair hydrated and help take off colours.
