Kisling, a Swiss-based manufacturer of adhesives, has come out with a new 2K-epoxy to improve bonding of carbon parts for a variety of applications in the automotive industry. Due to some exceptional features of the ergo. 7440, the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari was able to solve a current adhesive issue for a new automobile development.

The issue to be solved was to remove the bond line read through (BLRT). Due to the low shrinkage capabilities of the ergo 7440 this primary requirement was met to full satisfaction. The additional benefit of having an almost invisible glue line was accomplished due to the black colour of this epoxy adhesive.

Another requirement was the permanent temperature resistance of 180 degree Celsius. This performance criteria had to be proven by a 2000-hour test. The Kisling ergo.7440 adhesive provided exceptionally high bonding strength after 2000 hours of testing at 200 degrees Celsius.

A defined bonding gap is ensured by additives incorporated in this epoxy adhesive. This feature avoids contact corrosion in metal-carbon connections.

A processing time of 40 minutes ensures that there is enough time for the bonding process, even with high ambient temperatures during summertime. Additionally, the ergo. 7440 delivers a fast build-up of handling strength after 3-5 hours. This fast handling strength allows quick turnaround times in production. The ergo. product portfolio has a variety of high performing structural adhesives.
