Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha is a famous place known as temple city of Odisha. It is named it so because there are lots of temples are there which depicts different stories and myth to Indian culture and tradition. So the Hindu religion is so symbolic.
Lingaraj temple in Odisha is the largest temple in Odisha and one of the most enormous temples present here. Lingaraj means the king of lingas. This linga of Lord shiva is different from all other shiva lingas. Lingas are another form of Lord Shiva, the God of destruction.
This temple has built by Somavsnshi king Yayati during the 11th century. This place is called Ekamra kshetra. Ekamra means mango tree. The linga of Lord Shiva had appeared here naturally. So it is named Ekamra kshetra. Lingaraj is known as Tribhubaneswara.

The height of the temple is 55ft. It covers a 150sq meter area. The architecture of this temple is incredible. There are around 108 small temples inside the compound area of the temple. The temple of Maha Gauri, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya are there on the campus. It follows the traditions of India.
The Mahashivaratri is the major festival celebrated here. Many tourists inside India and outside India as well come to visit Lord Shiva during Shivaratri. Almost 2-2.5 lakhs of devotees come together during Mahashivaratri.
There is a large river that contains water from many holy rivers and brooks in India according to mythology. This river is known as Bindisarovar.
The linga of Lord Shiva has appeared naturally when he came for meditation. Lord Bishnu is also present here in the form of Salagrama. It is a major attraction for tourists and archeologists. This is one of the best places to visit in Odisha.
